Our Story — Crafted Excellence

JACOB’S CELLAR

A Boutique Family Winery Rooted in Faith, Grit & Generations
Altus, Arkansas, USA

Perched atop St. Mary’s Mountain in Altus, Arkansas, Jacob’s Cellar Boutique Family Winery stands where history, family, and the land itself quietly testify to a legacy more than a century in the making.

A Legacy Begun in 1880

In 1880, our great-great-great grandfather, Jacob, founded what is recognized as Arkansas’s first commercial winery, planting vines and vision in the Arkansas River Valley at a time when winemaking here was still an act of courage. His work helped establish Altus as the cradle of Arkansas wine—a distinction it proudly carries to this day.

Reviving the Family Calling

That pioneering spirit endured. In 2020, Mathew R. Post, a direct descendant of Jacob, was awarded a federal winery permit, formally reviving the family’s winemaking legacy.

Over the past five years, three generations of Jacob’s descendants have worked side-by-side—tending vineyards, processing grapes, and quietly crafting wine together, just as their ancestors once did.

Sourcing with Intention

Drawing upon a trusted network of fellow farmer friends from across the nation, the Post brothers source exceptional fruit to honor both tradition and excellence. Our inaugural wines feature carefully selected grapes including:

  • Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley, California
  • Primitivo from Lodi, California
  • Chambourcin from Arkansas
  • Cynthiana from Altus, Arkansas
  • Petit Syrah & Petit Verdot from French Camp, Paso Robles, California

Each bottle reflects reverence for place, patience in process, and a belief that great wine begins long before fermentation—rooted in relationships, stewardship, and time.

Our First Release — March 15, 2026

Jacob’s Cellar will release its first three vintages at a family birthday celebration on March 15, 2026—a date rich with meaning.

  • It marks the 101st birthday anniversary of fourth-generation winemaking pioneer Mathew J. Post, celebrated on the very same homestead where Jacob’s legacy began.
  • It also coincides with the 148th anniversary of nearby Subiaco Abbey, whose Benedictine monks were instrumental in shaping the winemaking heritage of the Arkansas River Valley.

Together, these milestones reflect the spiritual, agricultural, and familial roots that continue to guide our work.

Limited Library Release

Our debut offering consists of a very limited production trio of vintage red library wines:

  • 2021 Trinity Cabernet
  • 2022 Magna Cum Laude
  • 2024 G7 Heritage

Jacob’s Cellar is more than a winery; it is a continuation of a calling. Each bottle is an offering—crafted with humility, intention, and respect for those who came before us and those yet to come.

As we open this next chapter, we invite you to share in a story shaped by land, labor, and legacy—where faith guides the work, family anchors the vision, and time is honored as the most essential ingredient of all.
